✍ 셀 수 있는 명사 / 셀 수 없는 명사 [미국에서 배운 생생 문법 ]

 

 

 

 

미국에 살 때 문법 시간에 필기한 노트를 참고하여.. 오늘도 글을 써 볼게요.

 

 

셀수 있는 명사와 셀 수 없는 명사는 

항상 친구들이 헷갈려 하는 부분이에요. 

 

이 명사 부분을 제대로 넘어가지 않으면 

다음에 할 quantifiers 즉 '수량 형용사'도 어려울 수 밖에 없어요. 

 

셀 수 있는 명사 중에서는 -s/es를 붙이기도 하지만

불규칙 명사가 또 따로 있죠. 

 

천천히 살펴 보겠습니다. 

 

 

1. 명사의 복수형 

-f/fe로 끝나면 –ves로 변경	elf = elves calf = calves wolf = wolves knife = knives loaf = loaves shelf = shelves leaf = leaves
모습이 완전히 변형 ( 불규칙)	man = men person = people mouse = mice child = children foot = feet goose = geese tooth = teeth louse = lice cactus = cacti ox =oxen child = children quiz= quizzes apex = apices appendix= appendices index = indices datum = data oasis = oases
모습이 변하지 않는 것 (불규칙)	Fish / shrimp (or shrimps) / quail (or quails) Tuna / series / aircraft / deer / sheep / species
-s를 붙이는 것 (대부분의 명사/ 모음+y / 모음+O)	car = cars dog = dogs day = days key = keys boy = boys donkey = donkeys zoo= zoos stereo = stereos radio = radios kangaroo = kangaroos
-es를 붙이는 것 (End in -s /ch/ sh/ x /z     자음+y = -ies     자음+O	bus = buses match = matches dish = dishes quiz = quizzes   city = cities baby = babies story = stories country = countries   hero = heroes potato = potatoes echo = echoes   [예외] pianos / photos

 

 

 

 

 

이렇게 셀 수 있는 명사의 복수형을 알아보았습니다. 

이제 셀 수 없는 명사를 알아볼게요. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2. 셀 수 없는 명사 vs 셀 수 있는 명사 비교  

대부분의 명사는 셀 수 있는데, 

셀 수 있는 명사와 셀 수 없는 명사가 항상 헷갈려요.

그래서 셀 수 없는 명사와 비교해서 무엇은 셀 수  있는지 비교하는  표를 만들어 봤습니다!!!!

3. 셀 수 있기도 하고 없기도 한 .. 대표적인 박쥐같은 명사들.  

 

1. paper  -  종이류

    셀 수 있음 : 신문, 잡지, 서류, 뉴스레터, 종이비행기같이 어떤 도구로서의 종이.

  

A notebook is made from sheets of paper.

She made a paper airplane.

Is there anything interesting in today's paper?

There are some papers on the newsstand. 

 

 셀 수 없음 : 포장지, 벽지 (wallpaper, wrapping paper)로 셀 수 없음.   

 

The parcel was wrapped in brown paper.

We've put up new paper in the dining room.

 

2. coffee - 일반적으로 셀 수 없는 명사입니다. 

 

How much coffee do you drink a day?

셀 수 없으므로 much + 단수로 쓰입니다.

 

    셀 수 있음 : "a cup of coffee"로 커피 한 잔을 이야기 할 때 (구어체에서만 쓰입니다. )

 

I had a coffee today but I'm still tired.

I usually drink 3 coffees a day.

How many coffees did we order?

 

 

3. food - 보통의 경우 셀 수 없습니다. 

health food, junk food, seafood, soul food, wholefood....

 

    셀 수 있음 : 특정 종류의 음식을 이야기 할 때, 또는 서로 다른 구별되는 '유형'으로서의 음식을 나타낼 때. 

The doctor said you should eat fruits, vegetables, and other healthy foods.

I had many different foods in Taiwan. 

 

 

4. chicken -  어떻게 된 닭인가에 따라 달라진다.  

    셀 수 있음 : 닭이 살아있는 꼬꼬닥인 경우. '새'로서의 닭은 셀 수 있다.

 My grandma has 6 chickens in her farm. 

She went out back, caught a chicken, cut off its head to cook for dinner.

   

    셀 수 없음 : 요리로서의 닭은 셀 수 없다. 

Most of Koreans love fried chicken.

 

5. time  - 시간 / 횟수 

    셀 수 있음 : 한 번, 두 번 등 횟수를 나타내는 경우는 셀 수 있습니다. 

I go to the gym to work out two times a week. 

 

    셀 수 없음 : 시간 자체를 나타낼 때는 셀 수 없다. 

대신 hour, minute, second, month, year, week 등으로 나타냅니다. 

 

6. fruit - food와 마찬가지 

    셀 수 있음 : 서로 다른 구별되는 '유형'으로 음식을 나타낼 때는 셀 수 있습니다. 

 

I eat different fruits everyday. 

The dessert contained several fruits.

Though apples and oranges are both fruits, they are very different in taste.

 

 

    셀 수 없음 : 'entire group in general'의 의미로서 일반적으로는 셀 수 없기 때문에 '단위 형용사'와 함께 쓰이거나 단수로 쓰입니다. 

 

I want to buy more fruit. 

apples, pears, blueberries, cherries, strawberries and peaches.

 

 

 

7. Glass:  재료일 때, 제품일 때

    셀 수 있음 : 안경렌즈, 유리잔 등 제품으로서는 셀 수 있습니다. 

 

I drank a glass of water. 

She wears glasses when she drives. 

 

    셀 수 없음 : '유리'라는 어떤 제품을 만들기 위한 재료로서는 셀 수 없습니다. 

Windows are make of glass. 

 

 

 

8.exprience - 경험으로서 둘 다 사용 가능 

    셀 수 있음 : event로서의 경험. 

 I had many interesting experiences on my trip. 

(Many interesting events happened to me)

   

    셀 수 없음 : 지식이나 능력으로서의 경험.

I haven't had much experience with computers. 

(I don't have much knowledge or skill in using computers)

 

 

 

 

 

재미있죠? 

돈은 셀 수 없지만 동전, 지폐는 셀 수 있어요. 

장신구는 셀 수 없지만 목걸이, 반지, 팔찌, 귀걸이는 셀 수 있어요. 

assignment는 셀 수 있는데 homework는 셀 수 없다는 것도 비교해서 알아 두세요.
